The Grande Seconde

At the beginning of the third millennium, Jaquet Droz joined the Swatch Group’s prestigious market segment, thus giving strong new impetus to the brand. This was first embodied by the launch of the Grande Seconde, its most emblematic timepiece, which resonates with all the conventions it has upheld throughout its history.

Presented in 2002, this legendary and timeless watch, imagined for the first time in 1785, takes us to the very roots of the Jaquet Droz philosophy and the brand’s unique approach to time and the object dedicated to measuring it. A work of art in its own right, the Grande Seconde has constantly evolved, providing Jaquet Droz the luxury of creating jewelry versions and versions that use novel materials or feature sophisticated complications.

Pierre Jaquet-Droz was one of the greatest craftsmen of his time. Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1721, he was a master watchmaker of genius and vision who marked the history of his profession. Since Jaquet Droz joined the Swatch Group in 2000, it has continued its never-ending quest to perpetuate the history and expertise of its founder.

In the summer of 2010, the company moved into its new Atelier de Haute Horlogerie in La Chauxde-Fonds, allowing the brand to meet rising market demand as well as its ambitious growth targets. Part of the Swatch Group’s Prestige and Luxury Range, Jaquet Droz employs exceptional craftsmanship to develop timepieces with unique character.

It was with great emotion that, in 2013, the brand celebrated its 275th anniversary and a history of cultivating the spirit of excellence and innovation, of passing on the values of passion and poetry and of building its future, day by day.
